BEHIND DONABRICK

My name is Kenneth. I’m Norwegian by birth, although Spain has been home for almost 30 years.

For nearly four decades, most of my working life has revolved around software, projects and technology, building companies and products, managing projects and teams, solving problems and for many years, successfully leading technology organisations.

A world where everything seems to move faster every year.

These days, I live in the village of Besalú, where the “noise” is somewhat different. The everyday thunder of the “rat race” has been replaced by the sound of the Fluvià, the soothing green hills of La Garrotxa and, increasingly, the little click of two plastic bricks coming together.

…BACK TO THE BRICKS

Growing up in Norway in the 70s, with close ties to Denmark, LEGO was everywhere. It was a favourite toy in our family and, years later, when I had a family of my own, LEGO naturally returned.

Not long ago, during a difficult period in my life, when I was also trying to regain some control over the direction and pace of my own life, I started collecting LEGO again.

I discovered something I hadn’t really appreciated as a child. For me, LEGO can be a tool, an outlet.

When my head is full, collecting, organising and building gives me something physical and uncomplicated to focus on. No screen. No notifications. No need to be permanently connected or available. Just finding the next piece.

Call it mindfulness if you like. I eventually did.

SO… DONABRICK ?

Once LEGO had become part of this new chapter, I started wondering what else I could do with it.

I began hunting for forgotten sets and boxes of bricks, buying second-hand lots, cleaning and sorting pieces, completing old sets and building new things. Some LEGO is rescued, most is bought and some is donated.

Donabrick grew out of the idea that those bricks can have more than one life.

I’d like to experiment with ways to share them, through builds and displays, activities and ideas, and eventually by recovering, acquiring or creating sets that can find their way back into the community: to families and organisations where buying LEGO may not be a priority, but where the bricks could still bring plenty of play, creativity and good moments.

Exactly what will Donabrick become? I don’t know yet.

It’s a project under construction. Literally.

AND THE WINDOW… (where you may have just walked by?)

Well…

At some point I discovered that while apparently you can NEVER (prove me wrong) have too much LEGO, you can DEFINITELY (FACT!) run out of space.

So now I have a window to share and a new dedicated space for my hobby, and my mindfulness. 🙂
